LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – In lieu of a traditional fireworks display, the Lake Oswego Fourth of July celebration at Millennium Plaza Park will use lasers to light up the night sky.
No word on why they chose to celebrate without “bombs bursting in air,” but the Independence Day Illumination celebration will include “wonderful all-American festivities” along with the laser light show.
The show will be accompanied by music from 98.7 The Bull, glow-in-the-dark entertainment, and cuisine from Koi Fusion, Dogs and Fries, Kona Ice, MexiRican and Ancestry Brewing.
Organizers said the laser show will last about the same length as a traditional fireworks show of about 20 minutes.
The festivities run from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and the lights display will start at about 9:45 p.m.
“Bring your blankets, pillows and low sand chairs and save a spot for family and friends!” the celebration said.
For those who still want fireworks, the Lake Oswego Corporation will still have fireworks at their Fourth of July event at the west end of the lake near Lake Grove Swim Park.
The annual event is expected to bring out hundreds of boaters to enjoy the display.
“Plan accordingly by bringing along your anchor and flashlights and don’t forget your lifejackets!,” the Lake Oswego Corporation said. “Please keep 300’ between the fireworks barge and your boat for safety.”
